LIZARD HAIR

Oooo heyya folks!! It has just been a splendid week here in Kosovo! I am so blessed to serve in this beautiful country with the best companion, best missionaries, and best PEOPLE EVER. Everything is too good. I cut my hair. It is like 12 feet shorter. We also saw some waterfalls (AWESOME) and the workers let us in on their secret places to go that were most beautiful, I got a BONDSTEEL tshirt (RAD), and we had the most beautiful fast and testimony meeting!!!

GOOD CULTURE SHOCKS: 

1. One thing Albanians will do is that when they see their friend from afar they will place their right hand over their hearts and nod to them to show respect! It is so precious. 

2. Another funny thing they do is they ALWAYS use the word respect. All their messages, formal letters, notes, and everything ends with the word respect. 

3. Albanian's don't have a huge sweets tolerance. They HATE American candies and sweets! They are keepin me healthy out here :)) 

For the GIGGLES: 

1. Alrighty hhaaha so I love to exercise in the mornings. It is the best start to my day right? Well we have this great balcony that is super long and awesome and I will go running and exercise out there. Well funny thing is that exercise is like a foreign subject to these people so all the people in the apartment buildings just WATCH ME WORKOUT. Like no joke they just come to their windows and watch me lol. Hhahaha we met up with an investigator and she asked if that was me running every morning and I said yes and then she started laughing and told me she watches me every morning while she eats breakfast HAHAHA. Love it. This story gets better though, we started getting hate mail notes posted all over our floor about my exercising... I think it might have been my awesome jams I have playing in the morning...  I mean you can't tell me Praise to the Man doesn't get you hyped in the morning. Hahaha bëj shaka. 

2. We went to the MILITARY BASE CALLED BONDSTEEL in Kosovo and it is the coolest thing ever. Everyone had their major guns and stuff and we got an awesome tour of the whole base it was so awesome. They also have a store where you can buy AMERICAN FOODS. You already know I bought 15 jars of peanut butter #Iamasurvivor 

3. I am the worst trainer ever. Hahaha good thing my comp is my best friend ;)  I just tease her so much and make her eat all the nasty foods and stuff. That is what a companion is for right? I AM SO BLESSED TO HAVE HER IN MY LIFE. Hahaha but this week our friend gave us a bunch of chocolates and I thought they were so good I just kept eating them because our friend kept insisting that I eat them and Motra Mann just kept laughing so hard but I had no idea why. Anyways, they were COFFEE CHOCOLATES AHH hahaha I am the worst missionary lol. That was a funny situation to explain to them later lol. 

4. We caught a lizard when we went hiking and he was so cute. Then he started crawling up my arm but he was going too fast I couldn't catch him!!! Sister Mann couldn't get him either and then suddenly he started crawling up into my hair!!!!! I felt him in my clothes so we shook them out and shook out my hair and couldn't find him anywhere!! Hahaha one of our elders came over to see why we were going crazy and he was like, "Well, where is he now?? (The lizard)" hahaha and then out of nowhere the lizard just crawled up on top of my head and he's like "AHA I FOUND HIM" It was soooo hilarious. 

GOOD SPIRIT FOOD: 

My spiritual thought today comes from 1 Cor 12: 26 from Come Follow Me this week which says, "And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored, all the members rejoice with it." 

Together we are one. We ALL make up one body of the church!!! Each and everyone of us individually play a huge role in our branches and wards. Likewise, we need everyone's talents and abilities because without them, we are missing something. It is like the song from Brother Bear. "I will be there for you, and I know you'd be there for me too! Welcome to our family time!!! Welcome to our happy to be time!!!" We are family!!!! When of us suffer we GATHER TOGETHER and SUFFER TOGETHER. When one of us is honored we GATHER TOGETHER and REJOICE TOGETHER. If you are thinking that your ward or branch has no need for you, you could not be more mistaken. If you are thinking you have no importance you are terribly wrong. YOU are needed. GOD NEEDS YOU. YOU are important. You are strong, you are smart, and you can do hard things! I love you all!!!

I LOST MY CHILDREN

WHAT A WEEK. This was one of the craziest weeks of my life. It was so wonderful. WE SAW SO MANY MIRACLES. My mission is the best experience of my life and I have been growing and changing and learning so much out here. I AM SOO HAPPY. Even when the persecution comes, we smile and laugh our way through the whole thing :) Nothing stops the work of the Lord!!!!!

Culture SHOCKS:

1. Everything is bread to these people. Seriously, they eat bread with everything. When they are about to eat food they always say "do hame buke" which is we will eat bread (even when they mean food). 

2. Smoking is one of the greatest challenges we face here. EVERYBODY SMOKES. Even little kids that are 7 years old are smoking around town and it is just a normal thing here. It breaks my heart!!!

3. IT IS WATERMELON SEASON. That means there are watermelons EVERYWHERE, people give you free watermelons, and the cars are FULL of watermelons. It is soooo awesome. 

FUNNY STUFF:

1. This week my dear friend taught me how to make byrek. Let me tell ya, I am not a cook. First of all, they spent about 20 minutes teaching me how to peel a zucchini the right way HAHHA. Then, they added like 5 pounds of sugar to the zucchini and a bunch of other ingredients and we made some scrumptious byrek. My favorite kind is the djath or cheese byrek. DANG IT IS SO GOOD. They told me they were going to make me into good wife material so #watchouteverybody

2. There was another Bajram celebration this week so the streets were just EMPTY and all the stores were closed and dang it was just crazy. The muslims here in Kosovo get really into their festivities. It was pretty funny though because our friends love showing us off to their families and friends showing them that we are from America and that we actually speak Albanian and teach us how to dance like them!! It is pretty awesome. 

3. So if you know me, you know my love for collecting rocks. I have found the coolest rocks here!!!!! I was pretty sad this week because I left some cool rocks in the car and one of our Elders threw my rocks out the window on accident and I was so sad!! It is so cute though because now all my cute Albanian/Kosovar friends are collecting rocks for me to have!!! 

Spiritual Thought:

One thing I have come to learn on my mission is that this work is beautiful, but it is hard. It is soooo hard. One of the hardest parts is watching people harden their hearts to the spirit and watching the persecution that goes on in this land. The majority of the population of Kosovo is Muslim which makes people very hard to the subject of Christianity. We have been pushed around, spit upon, laughed at, and made fun of for everything we do and it is hard.  However, nothing keeps me going as much as the members of this branch. They are the biggest examples to me. This week one of our best friends decided to follow the example of Paul and stick up for her faith. She is an investigator that has wanted to get baptized for quite some time now but hasn't been able to because of her parents. This week she stood up for her faith and told them that she is a Christian, she believes in Christ her Savior, and she is not ashamed. Since then she has faced the worst persecutions. People are taunting her on the streets, making fun of her, yelling at her, fighting, throwing things, and she doesn't give up. All of her persecution actually fuels her faith and NOW SHE IS GETTING BAPTIZED!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I AM SO EXCITED!!!!! I am so proud of her. Her faith has built my faith SOO much over our time together. She knows that it is only through our Savior, Jesus Christ, that we can be saved. It is only through our Redeemer that we can find lasting happiness. It is only through the Lamb of God that we can have exaltation. I love my mission. I love these members. I love these humble disciples of Christ that preach throughout their nation. If we could all remember the example of Paul and my friend. For why be ashamed of Christ, who is never ashamed of us? 

I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH AND HOPE YOU HAVE THE BEST WEEK EVER!!! Smile, smile, smile, smile this week and have sooooo much fun!!! LOVE YOU.

MEXICAN SLIPNSLIDE

HEYYY ALL YALL. I AM SO THANKFUL FOR YOU JUST SO YOU KNOW. I am also just so happy and truly think Kosovo is the best place in the world #sorrynotsorry. I do have to apologize for my email today because my keyboard doesn't work very well so ignore all the mistakes hehe. But we have had an awesome week from slip n slides, ziplining through the mountains, summer picnics, and lots of miracles. Kosovo is the place to be! 

GOOD CULTURE STUFF:

1. They have all these doorknobs hete that don't turn. Almost like all of the door knobs are for decoration or something I don't even know. All I know is that it is super embarrassing tjat I still turn every single one.... 

2. One fun thing they do here is sell corn on the streets. It literally is just plain corn that they roast or something and it actually is not bad!! 

3. Because it is such a patriarchal society here the women will NOT ALLOW the men to cook or clean. It is soooo weird. Part of it is because they think that they suck at cleaning and cooking hahaha. 

GOOFY STORIES: 

1. Now is time to talk about the Mexican slip n slide. We have a member here who is from Mexico (he works on the army base) and he is so awesome. We went to his house and he made tons of AUTHENTIC Mexican food and it was awesome. After that he made a slip n slide and it was so hilarious because the Kosovars do not really know how slip n slides work so they just started running so fast onto the slide and just slipped and ate it so hard. That was so hilarious to watch oh my goodness. 

2. We helped a member here make specat e mbushur which is stuffed peppers and she is the only Albanian I have ever met who likes spicy food. So we were helping her fill these peppers and suddenly our hands started burning so badly. THEY WERE STINGING SO BAD I CANT EVEN EXPLAIN. We tried everything to wash them, clean our pores, run them under cold water, and literally everything. Holy cow we were in so much pain. Not to mention that any other part of our bodies that we touched burst into dragon fire on our hands oh my. For 2 days now my hands have felt like they are BURNING HAHAHA. Oh and also our friend wasn't even phased... like what the heck. But hey, they were dang good spicy peppers. 

3. For some reason at about 7:30 at night the birds here go NUTS. Yes, the birds. It's like every single bird in Prishtina decides to start flying all at once. It's like this massive swoosh of birds fly up in the air and fly in circles for like 15 minutes. They are plotting against us I am telling ya. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF BIRDS. 

SPIRITUAL GOODIES:

Okay so about 2 weeks ago we received this random phone call from a number we had never seen before. It was a woman who said she wanted to meet with us however she couldn't for 2 weeks because she was going to be out of town! We called the number again this week and her husband answered and basically said that they both had never called us but we were welcome to come over (they both don't work on Sundays by the way GEZOHEM). He gave us their address and we literally couldn't find their house anywhere (because they don't exactly have addresses here). After driving around for so long we prayed and just started turning down all these random streets!!! WE WERE LED RIGHT TO THEIR HOUSE. It was a miracle!!!! I still cannot believe we found it. They have the most beautiful family of 6 and are so prepared for us. They are wonderful. They were so confused how we had their phone number but I was like you guys called us? Hahahaha. We all agreed that it was a miracle and we were meant to be in their house that day. 

The Lord truly prepares his people. We were meant to come into contact with this family, find their house, and teach them a beautiful lesson. There are no coincidences. God has a plan for each and every one of his children. THAT INCLUDES YOU. 

1 Nephi 9: 6 says, "But the Lord knoweth all things from the beginning; wherefore, HE PREPARETH A WAY TO ACCOMPLISH ALL HIS WORKS among the children of men; for behold, he hath all power unto the fulfilling of all his words. And thus it is. Amen." 

TRUST HIM! Have faith to work mighty miracles!! I love you all!!! Have a FAN FREAKING TASTIC WEEK!!!

The one with the Naked Man...

 Okay ladies and gents this week was so great. I love being a missionary. THIS WORK IS SO FUN AND LIFE IS JUST SO GOOD. We had crazy thunderstorms and lots of lightning this week which made for some COOL pictures and lots of laughs. This little country of Kosovo is just lighting up and the work is HASTENING. Ahhh miracles miracles miracles. I couldn't be happier. 

Culture shocks 4 the week:

1. Albanian's love to interpret dreams. I had this crazy dream this week about doing missionary work with the ancient Egyptians and they interpreted my dream to mean that I was worried about my finances or something. I don't even know man. 

2. Everything here is so healthy and fresh. We eat so good here it is awesome. It is so fresh that we have to go to the markets quite often to get the goods. 

3. We get hit on so much here hahhaha. Let's just say this is only my 3rd time being proposed to this week.... all the men just want us to take them to America. Hard pass. 

GIGGLES:

1. So this week we went to go visit a member with the elders. He wasn't there, but his son answered the door and from my angle I could only see his hand on the door. I wanted to meet the son (who isn't baptized) and the tell him about our activities we were going to have. I poke my head around the door to look at the son and HE IS STANDING THERE BUTT NAKED. LIKE STRAIGHT UP NAKED HAHAHAHAH. I pulled back so fast and was trying so hard not to laugh and everyone else just starts laughing so hard and it was so uncomfortable but so hilarious. Hhaha Albanian's are very comfortable here lol. 

2. We went to visit one of our cute investigators this week and she works at a sewing place that fixes clothes and stuff!! When we were there she begged sister Mann to try on this dress she had made for a customer. Sister Mann started putting the dress on over her dress and as she bent over to pull the dress up our friend just SLAPS her butt so freaking hard and she just goes flying and oh man it was so freaking funny. I feel like I will be a lot more touchy by the time I get home lol. 

3. So this week we had to go to Albania again but on our way home it was pretty late so we decided we would just sleep in Gjakova in an empty apartment that the church had there. HAHAH BAD IDEA. There were spiders and ants everywhere and it was like 10000 degrees. It was quite the adventure though. 10/10 do not recommend. 

SPIRITUAL GOODIES:

I have been thinking a lot about persecution this week while reading in Alma 1:19-20 and 25. They faced some hard persecutions back then!! There is always persecution that follows after righteousness. IT IS HARD STUFF. But as seekers of truth and righteousness we all are faced with persecution. We are persecuted by friends, colleagues, family, culture, school, worldly views, and just life in general and it is so hard. In Kosovo it is such a hard thing to be a Christian and especially to be a member of our church. They are persecuted down to their very beings and it is so hard. However, THEY ARE SO STRONG. WE CAN BE SO STRONG. We know that after all the persecutions that we face we will be rewarded for our works. If we stand firm for righteousness we will be crowned with the blessedness of eternal joy. REMEMBER TO STAY STRONG DON'T QUIT. That is what Satan wants!!! Keep going!! Keep swimming!! And DO NOT let those hard trials in life stop you in your spiritual progression or deter your righteous zeal. We are a team that works together. And we have the Savior on our side. What have we to fear?

WATERFALLS

What is groovin everybody???? Kosovo is grooving that is for dang sure. I was able to play futbol for the first time in months and that was SOOO FUN. Let's just say these Albanians and I are lovin life on futbol Saturdays. Fun fact: the donuts here (I don't know how we found them) are 10/10. 

Culture SHOCKS: 

1. One interesting culture thing is that they rely very heavily on their parents approval for everything. Even once they leave the house they still ask their parents for permission to do anything. There is a lot of respect for 

2. EVERYTHING IS SO DANG CHEAP. We bought tons of food to FILL our cupboards, fridge, and freezer and we spent under 20$ WOWZER. 

3. This town is bumpin at night. There are quite a few people out in the day time but when it turns 8:00 the streets are just PACKED with people partying, fireworks, and tons of treats and stuff around town. 

FUNNY GOOFS:

1. This last week we went to a waterfall and it was sooo pretty. As we went to go up closer I told Motra Mann not to go any further or else she was going to slip. What did she do? SHE WENT CLOSER HAHA AND SLIPPED INTO THE WATERFALL. HAHAH I was laughing pretty dang hard that my companion was covered in dirt, mud, and was soaked. 

2. Sooo after that funny little experience karma hit me back. We were in Gjakova (another city about 1.3 hours away from Prishtina) and I was walking on the curbs (because yes I act like I am 6 years old) and I decided to do a fun trick on this ramp that was used for wheelchairs. I ended up slipping and just EATING IT on the ramp and right as I thought it was over I didn't realize that I had also knocked down a bunch of bikes lined up against the ramp which all fell on top of me. I was just stuck there under all the bikes with a bruised bum, bloody wrist, and the biggest smile on my face. That is what I get for laughing at my companion. #compunity

3. I love being a trainer so much. Maybe it is because I have the best comp but seriously it is so fun. We have been working really hard to help her (okay us) speak Albanian. We are both awkward and I love it. This week (in Albanian) she was trying to tell me that I really needed to be careful and not get hit by sins. I was contemplating what she said for so long... I kept asking myself if I had like sinned really bad lately or something and I was confused for the longest time. Finally, I asked her what the heck she was talking about. What she meant was that I really needed to be careful and not get hit by cars. The word for sin is mëkati and the word for car is makinë. We laughed so hard. 

SPIRITUAL GOODIES:

1. I have this cute best friend here that has the BIGGEST desire to get baptized but can't because her parents won't let her. To help strengthen her faith we have been doing Personal Progress together for Young Women's and we have started a Young Women's program here! It is so wonderful. SHE LOVES IT. She has been working so hard so that she won't ever lose her faith. She has memorized the YW theme in both English and Albanian and ALWAYS comes to church on Sunday. She knows what this gospel is all about! It is rooted in her soul! We had the most beautiful lesson with her and talked about her fears of living in Kosovo where she doesn't have the same freedom to choose as we do in America. Together, we read in Matthew 8:26 in the Bible which says, " And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful?, O ye of little Faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm." This verse really helped the both of us see that with the Lord we have NO FEAR. He calms our storms and lifts us up. He reaches out his hand to save us and all that WE have to do is have enough faith to grab his hand and hold on. Remember to find joy in the journey!!!!!!

SOAKED, LOST, AND LOTS OF POTIONS

Hellllloooooooo everybody!!! What is kickin? It has just been another week in paradise and we couldn't be happier!!!! I have coolest companion, the most beautiful area, and the BEST FRIENDS HERE. We had a baptism and it was so awesome. His name is Diart and I basically am his mom I love him and his sister so much!!! 

Culture shocks: 

1. Albanians generally don't smile in photos. It is so interesting. But they are so cute. Straight face photos are the thing here. 

2. They believe that if you sit on the floor you will get sick. They are so superstitious! They also think rain makes you sick... everyone is scared of the rain. 

3. Everyone claims they know English but in reality they don't so it is just this huge language barrier hahaha they are so sweet. Sometimes they refuse to talk in Albanian and only use the 4 English words they know because we are American lol and they want to help us. 

Goofy goober stories: 

1. Alrighty so if you know me you know that I am like a walking map. I always know where to go. HAHAH jokes. I love to be in charge of the map and I just wish so badly that I was good at using one. So anyways, this week we were driving to Gjakova, Kosovo from Tirana, Albania. As we were driving I may or may not have accidentally led us to the beach which is completely the opposite direction hahahaha. After we finally found the main road we continued on but then I thought it would be a smart idea to take a short cut through the mountains because we were already 2 hours late hahahaha. Bad idea. It was a long cut anddddd we may or may not have gotten ourselves lost in Kosovo without service on our phones. It was so fun!!!!! And soooo beautiful. We found the most beautiful sunflower fields that went on for ages. We made it out alive, 3 hours later, with the biggest smiles on our faces. Not to mention that we met the best people during that whole ordeal that actually are interested in our message!!! What did I learn? 1) everything happens for a reason 2) I shouldn't be in charge of the map 3) Kosovo is the most beautiful place. 

2. This week it rained SOOO MUCH. We went to an appointment and it started pouring rain out of no where. I'm talking DUMPING GALLONS OF RAINDROPS. We had to be on the other side of town for another appointment and we didn't have an umbrella lol. So our friends lent us their umbrella and we started walking to our next appointment. We were walking in water up to mid calf and were just soaking wet. All the sudden the wind took the umbrella and turned it inside out and I really don't know if I have laughed harder in my life. We looked like we were swimming. Good mems. 

3. One of the Americans who lives here decided to do a relief society activity and make like lotions and stuff with essential oils. It was so funny because she had her defuser thing or whatever it is called and was cooking stuff that was smokey so it straight up looked like we were making potions at the church (Harry Potter moment of the week). Our branch President HATES the smell of the essential oil stuff which is so hilarious because they can't get the smell out and so our church has smelled like essential oils for the past 5 days HAHAHAHA. 

FOOD FOR THE SOUL: 

We have a member here who is the definition of service. She talks to ANYONE and EVERYONE and is always talking about her faith, giving away Libri I Mormonits, and serving others despite her having NOTHING. This week I was extremely humbled. Her faith is shown through her actions. She is the most selfless person and always puts others above herself. She shared this quote with me this week, "I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy. " The two greatest commandments God has given is to love Him and to love others. How do we love God? By loving others. How do we love others? By serving them with the power of God. I encourage you all to pray and look for those opportunities to serve one another this week. More importantly, pray to know when to act on those opportunities. You will be blessed with the power from on high.

Transfer Calls!!!!!

Hey everybody!!!! It has been a rockin week and the best things have been happening in KOSOVO. We had transfer calls this week and my beautiful, smart, and rockin companion and trainer is leaving me to return to America :( I am going to miss her so much!! The good news though is that I get to stay in Prishtina (insert cheers and whoops) and I will be TRAINING A NEW MISSIONARY. HAHAHA WHAT. I am sooo new out here so that came as quite the shock. I am a little scared but mostly excited! There are some big things ahead of us here! 

Culture shocks for the week: 

1. Okay so like everybody in Kosovo knows like 4 languages or more. They are very smart when it comes to languages. They almost have to be since the countries are so small over here. Typically they know Serbian, German, Italian, Shqip (Albanian), Macedonian, or English.

2. Going to the bathroom is always an adventure. Usually because there are the fancy Turkish toilets where you go in the ground and they don't really believe in toilet paper or soap or basically any kind of cleaning lol.

3. They also don't have very good nutrition here. They think that bread and desserts make you healthy and strong. Hehe they also believe that if you sit on the ground inside that you will get a cold hhahaa cute. 

Funny stuff!!!: 

1. There is this massive pool here that some of the people love to go to but sidenote: Muslims typically don't go swimming because they have to be covered (if they are big practicers). So long story short, there are not a lot of people at the pool. So this week we walked past the pool and we just see these old men boating at the pool lol it was awesome. 

2. We have these cute lil neighbors who just love us so much. They range from the ages of 4-9 and they always come and hug us and kiss us and touch every square inch of my face and always slap my butt hahaha it is actually so funny. They also love my blonde hair and are always braiding it they are so so cute!!!!!!

3. I am finally almost legal in Kosovo!! The immigration office isn't very established yet so they are a little unofficial and also lose stuff hahaha but after about 3 months I took my favorite German, Elder Lerchner, to use his strict German voice to get the work movin along and now I am almost legal woot woot!!! 

Spiritual thoughts: 

The people here are always such an example to me. This week I have watched 3 different attitude-like things that have changed the way I think. I encourage you all to think about these this week! 

1. SMILING. I met this wonderful woman the other day while contacting and that was the extent of our friendship. I felt bad because it was so quick that all I could do was offer a smile. About a week later I ran into that same lady again but she was with her daughters and grandchildren! She ran up to me like we had been friends for years! She had told her entire family about our interaction the week before because she was so thankful for our smiles! Now we are going to meet with her daughters :) SMILING BRINGS MIRACLES. 

2. EXCITEMENT. The twins are the best example of this. Everytime we mention praying they IMMEDIATELY ask if they can say the prayer and they volunteer for basically every prayer because they love it so much. They love the blessings they recieve, they love talking to their Heavenly Father, and they love having the opportunity to pray for everyone there. Are you excited to pray?? Are you excited for church? Are you excited for Come Follow Me? 

3. REPRESENT. How do you represent your faith? My best friend up here named Biza is such a good representative of Jesus Christ. Not only is she kind, serves, and studies but she also expresses her love for the gospel. She was on her way to church yesterday ( she lives over 30 min away) and as she was walking some friends went past her and said, "What are you doing? Lets go to the pool or go do something! Come on lets go!". With the biggest smile on her face she said, " Hey!! I am heading to church where I get to learn about the gospel and Jesus Christ! Do you wanna come?? :)". WAY TO REPRESENT BIZA! 

Think about smiling more, getting excited to pray, and representing your faith this week!!!! It is something simple that all of us can do! That's all I have for today!!!
