WHAT IS KICKIN??
Here's some awesome deits about my week. This week was crazy. We traveled to Tirana for exchanges and we also went to Shkodër for district council which is this beautiful city about 2 hours away. Shkodër straight up looks like Ireland.. at least I think.. I don't know I've never been there. But anyways, it is just green fields, lots of goats, lots of mosques, beautiful mountains, and has crazy beautiful boulevards. I love Albania more and more everyday.
Crazy Culture Shocks:
1. Albanian's hang stuffed animals outside their houses or on gates to ward off evil spirits... kinda creepy but pretty hilarious.
2. Okay so Albanian's are so hilarious but they never stop talking. They could talk for hours if you don't interrupt them it's so funny. I fit in perfectly in this place let me tell ya... also.. THEY ARE ALWAYS YELLING. Not even kidding they always are just talking so loudly over each other it's so awesome.
3. So Albanian's actually don't have addresses... they give directions by saying, "go straight, turn right, and turn left" that's all we get hehe. Even our mission home is the "general direction" of where it's located how funny.
4. There are mosques everywhere!!! They are almost as many mosques as there are our churches in Utah lol. Also they kind of look like rapunzel's castle hehe.
5. There are animals everywhere. There are so many stray dogs it's so sad. Also, it's not everyday that you just see goats and chickens in the middle of the city :)
Kinda funny stuff:
1. Albanian's are very literal. So this week we had a fun Come Follow Me family night and at one point I had mentioned that they should NEVER take their eyes of the Savior and that we should always be looking at him. They totally thought I was being serious so everyone was looking at each other all confused and worried because they couldn't see him. Hahah oh man that was fun to explain.
2. We are teaching these Turkish ladies English but the problem is that they don't speak very good English or Albanian so we usually just play charades. They are older ladies and they kind of remind me of the ducks on the Aristocats disney movie because they just talk and giggle the whole time oh man they're so cute.
3. So this week we had exchanges and I went to Tirana with Motra Maurik and we were served food like usual but this time it was different. We got served homemade dhallë which is straight up cheese that you drink. Oh man that stuff is so nasty. But to make things much better this sweet ladies homemade the dhallë which made it really chunky and then she watched me drink every last ounce of my water bottle sized drink. The next day I threw up so there's that. (P.s. the food handling laws here are kind of non-existent so they don't really sanitize a lot of stuff lol...)
Spiritual wonders:
1. We had this amazing lesson this week with this wonderful woman named Flutura (Flootoora). She is the definition of AMAZING. She lives by the beach in this tiny hut. She has no electricity, a 2 room house, hardly anything to block out the cold, and she usually sleeps outside or on a sleeping bag in the kitchen and she is a miracle. She loves to sing so we sang "I am a Child of God" with her and the spirit was so strong. The thing about Flutura is that she gets it. She just gets the gospel. Despite her hard living conditions she is one of the strongest people I ever met. She constantly reads, prays, and comes to church even though she lives about 20 minutes away. She is going to be baptized on April 20th we are so excited for that beautiful spirit!!!!!! I want to be more like Flutura.
2. The past 2 weeks we have been absolutely bombarded with people. Contacting has been so crazy good, all the members want to meet with us, and we are getting numbers like crazy. This is an answer to my prayers. I prayed so hard when I was home that the people of Albania would be prepared to hear the perfect message of the gospel and those prayers are being answered. It has been unreal.
3. On Sunday night there was a temple preparation class for the 2 people preparing to go to the temple this month! It was the coolest class ever. Our Branch President, President Mema conducted the meeting and he is a rockstar. I love one line that he said, " The symbols are the language of the eternities, the spirit, revelation, and Christ. " It was a super awesome. Also it was so inspiring to see how excited these souls were to travel to the temple. For my Utah folks, REMEMBER HOW BLESSED WE ARE TO LIVE BY SO MANY TEMPLES. PLEASE GO.
Smile lots, stay safe, and keep sharing your testimonies!!! I love you all so much!!!!
